Described as “coloratura meets cheekiness” and “full of energy and verve”, Swiss soprano Annabelle Kern is currently a member of the ensemble at Staatstheater Kassel, where she will appear in the 26/27 season as Adele in Die Fledermaus, Adina in L’elisir d’amore and will perform Carmina Burana with the Staatsorchester Kassel. She appeared in the 25/26 season among other things as Despina in Così fan tutte, Adele in Die Fledermaus and Jenny Zerwien in the world premiere of Zornfried by Philipp Krebs.
Recent highlights include her 2025 appearance as Agnès in George Benjamin’s Written on Skin at the Prinzregententheater Munich, and her 2024 role debut as Fiakermilli in Richard Strauss’ Arabella at Bühnen Bern. She made her operatic debut at the Zurich Opera House during the 2023/24 season, appearing as Un cantore in Puccini’s La rondine. In the same season, she debuted at the Prinzregententheater Munich in Johann Christian Bach’s rediscovered opera Zanaida, performing the role of Cisseo.
She is a prizewinner at several major competitions in Germany and Switzerland, including Third Prize (Opera/Operetta) at the Bundeswettbewerb Gesang and Third Prize at the LIONS Music Prize Switzerland.
She has collaborated with conductors such as Marco Armiliato, Peter Rundel, Nicholas Carter, and Oscar Jockel, and worked with leading stage directors including Christof Loy, Vera Nemirova, Marco Štorman, Frank Hilbrich, and Balázs Kovalik.
Annabelle completed her Master’s degree in Opera at the Bayerische Theaterakademie August Everding and earned her Bachelor’s degree from the Berlin University of the Arts.
In addition to Swiss citizenship, Annabelle Kern holds German and French nationalities and is fluent in four languages. From childhood, she has accumulated extensive dance experience, particularly in ballet, jazz, and contemporary dance. In her leisure time, she continues to refine her vocal skills through musical theatre belting. She is an avid reader and loves sports.
